Congratulations from the Catalan Agency for Gastronomy and Nutrition

Dear Gordillo family,
From the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy and Nutrition, and in my own name as president, it is an honor to join in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the El Hogar Gallego restaurant in Calella de Mar, an exceptional milestone that deserves to be recognized and valued as an outstanding part of the gastronomic heritage of our country.

El Hogar Gallego is much more than a seafood restaurant. It is the living history of three generations of a family that, with vocation, sacrifice and passion for cooking, has managed to build an indisputable reference in the Catalan gastronomic scene. A house that has maintained, over decades and despite the difficulties of the times, an unalterable commitment to the quality of seafood and authentic hospitality.

From humble beginnings with the Bar Los Gallegos, founded by the maternal grandparents, to the opening of El Hogar Gallego in 1975, and with the impeccable succession by the third generation, this restaurant has gone through half a century faithful to its own identity and to a clientele that has responded with esteem and loyalty. With a sustained recommendation in the Michelin Guide and a Sun in the Repsol Guide, the restaurant’s prestige is well known to lovers of good cuisine, although perhaps not sufficiently reflected in media circles that often forget the milestones that are born of constancy and discretion.

At a time when Catalonia has been recognized as a World Region of Gastronomy, establishments like El Hogar Gallego are a genuine and inspiring expression of this. His career consolidates the values that define our cuisine: respect for local produce, the dialogue between tradition and modernity, and the vocation of service through gastronomy. Thanks to projects like yours, Catalan gastronomy is today a cultural flag recognized around the world.

That is why, from the Academy, we want to express our most sincere recognition of your career. We celebrate not only 50 years of history, but also the values that you have managed to preserve and transmit: roots, excellence, gastronomic honesty and pride in your profession.

Here’s to many more years of El Hogar Gallego. May this celebration be the prelude to a new chapter as memorable as the path traveled.

With all admiration and affection,
Carles Vilarrubí i Carrió
